Substance Abuse Services
The goal of substance abuse treatment at the Fraser Center is to offer
those whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drug problems a path
to recovery. The program offers insight into the disease process of addiction,
an introduction to the twelve-step model of recovery, and the identification
of specific treatment goals for each individual. In addition, group therapy
offers the support necessary to identify the interpersonal problems that
may be obstacles to sobriety. Educational sessions are included to provide
a basic knowledge of addiction as a disease, and how this disease has
impacted individuals and their families physically, emotionally, socially,
and spiritually.
At the Fraser Center, we aid clients in stabilizing their lives by focusing treatment efforts in these six areas:
- Withdrawal - includes mild to serious symptoms such as agitation, nausea, sleeplessness, tremors, seizures, etc.
- Physical complications - clients can experience wide range of physical impairments resulting from substance use/abuse, including heart, lung and liver damage.
- Emotional/behavioral disorders - depression, anxiety, psychosis, grief reactions and shame are all possible issues facing chemically dependent clients.
- Resistance and acceptance - denial can be an obstacle to treatment. Denial is a natural coping skill that becomes maladaptive. Clients need to be encouraged to move from denial through these of other healthy coping skills to acceptance of need for treatment.
- Relapse potential - areas of the client's life which cause obsessive or compulsive behavior must be stabilized. Those locations, habits, or relationships which trigger impulses to drinker use are addressed.
- Social/Environmental stressors - family, legal, financial, vocational, and other aspects of a client's life have likely been affected by drug and alcohol use. The consequences of these effects become part of the treatment process.
Recovery
Recovery is the process of creating a stable self in all areas - physical, emotional, social, and spiritual.
Levels of Service
Level I Outpatient: This level of service begins with an assessment to determine appropriateness for treatment as well as need for detoxification. Once any and all detoxification needs have been met, clients will be offered two group meeting per week, individual and family sessions with their counselor, opportunities to provide urine drug screens to verify continued abstinence, and a schedule of area 12-step meetings with encouragement to attend at least one meeting per week. Participation in the Level I program is expected for a minimum of eight weeks with available extensions, depending on individual needs.
Level I Multiple Offender/DUI Treatment: Clients who are attempting to regain their driver's licenses after being convicted of two or more DUIs within five years may need this level of care. This level begins with referral to the Fraser Center from a State Certified Clinical Evaluator. The duration of this level of care is from 17 weeks to one year, depending on the needs of the client. Clients are involved in group two times per week, individual and family counseling, and 12-step support group meetings. As with all substance abuse services offered at the Fraser Center, clients are expected to abstain from all mood-altering substances for the entire treatment duration.
Continuing Care Services: This level is available for all clients who have successfully completed another level of substance abuse treatment and desire ongoing monitoring and additional support for the life changes necessary to continued successful recovery. These clients are offered one group per week as well as contact with a counselor as needed.
